Description
Since 1997, Library Day has been commemorated every 24 October to remember the destruction of the Sarajevo Library during the Balkan War in 1992. The aim was to raise public awareness of the importance of reading and preserving cultural heritage. It also paid tribute to the silent work of librarians, whose dedication makes it possible to pass on this important legacy. Conceived as a Cabinet of Fine Arts, the Royal Library has collected different types of materials and collections throughout its history. This space has housed musical instruments, medals and coins, drawing tools and devices used for scientific and mathematical research, along with manuscripts, printed matter, maps, drawings, engravings and musical scores. On this occasion, attendees will be able to learn about the history of the library in times past and also about the daily work that is carried out there.
