Age requirement: 18+
Accessibility: the venue is accessible for people with reduced mobility
Entry requirement: prior booking required. It will be mandatory to provide the full name, ID/passport number, and date of birth of all attendees (you cannot use the same ID number twice when booking). You must present your ID at the door. We recommend arriving about 15 minutes before the start of the activity.
Description
Since 1997, Library Day has been commemorated every October 24th to remember the destruction of the Library of Sarajevo during the Balkan War in 1992. The goal was to raise public awareness about reading and the importance of preserving cultural heritage. It also pays a small tribute to the quiet dedication of librarians who make the transmission of this vital legacy possible.
Conceived as a Cabinet of Fine Arts, the Royal Library has gathered various types of materials and collections throughout its history. In this space, musical instruments, medals and coins, drawing tools, and instruments used for scientific and mathematical research have coexisted alongside manuscripts, prints, maps, drawings, engravings, and music scores.
On this occasion, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the library in past times as well as the daily work that takes place there.
