Workshop 1: The Places of the Court
We will explore the rooms to learn what the "Jornadas Reales" were and where the Court moved to. In the workshop, we will create a map marking the main royal palaces.
Workshop 2: Springtime in Aranjuez
We will explore how the royal family and the nobility enjoyed various entertainments throughout the year and across different royal sites.
This workshop will focus on the royal barges: elegant boats that carried kings and their guests along the Tagus River in Aranjuez. Participants will have the chance to design and decorate their own barge, adding intricate details and luxurious touches.
Description
At Easter, the Royal Collections Gallery will host a two-morning activity for children aged 6 to 12. Through games, workshops, and brief explanations, they will explore the "Jornadas Reales": the travels that began with Philip II and were later solidified under the Bourbons, shaping the network of Palaces and Gardens that today form the National Heritage. Throughout each session, participants will discover how, when, and why the monarchs moved from one Royal Site to another, delving into topics such as protocol, transportation, and the administration of these estates. The activity will conclude with the children designing their own "royal itinerary" through the most emblematic locations. Each day, following the museum visit, they will create a timeline of royal journeys based on the seasons of the year.
